The Suez Crisis

In 1956 Britain, France and Israel sought to seize control militarily of the vital Suez Canal from Arab nationalist Egyptian president Gamal Abdul Nasser. Eisenhower ordered his allies to stand down in order to secure America's energy security and seal its global power. The Suez Crisis marked the end of Britain's imperial ambitions in the Middle East but you see it through a sort of lens of energy security rather than kind of imperial domination.
