The Stoic Theology and the World Soul
Stoics claim that there is a pervading principle of wisdom in the world. They say all things are as good as they could possibly be and devoted to god's plan. The early stoics were carefully reacting to plato, borrowing from him but rejecting his ideas. Cleanthes' hymn says we alone among earthly beings bear a likeness to god.
