Is Consumption a Wealth Signal?
We really are in an age of consumption. And I think it's also a very North American thing to consume. But buying things is also one of our most tangible wealth signals. We're almost not good to capitalism if we don't spend money on consuming goods and services. Like the system doesn't encourage us to do that. The system encourages us to spend money on other things rather than investments for ourselves.
