China: A Power That We Cannot Ignore
I'm heartened that we've toughened our approach on national security and the legislation about protecting our vital interests. It was important that was done but we do still have to trade with China. We need China to understand that it may sooner or later be in China's own interest to respect international agreements as they develop their military. I think the real difficulty is China isn't really bothered what we think anymore. So I don't think we can suddenly hide under the blankets about China. We have to step up, we have to engage with them but we have to be very sure we are protecting our vital interest.
