There's more metabolically active tissue moving at any given time, so there's a greater energy flux required. A decent carbohydrate provision that is more or less replicated by what you see in the research would probably be something i'd recommend for longer sessions with more compound exercises. I'm not super firm on that, because we also did try to run a a dose response on the amount of carbohydrate consumed but there was not a relationship there.
