The Importance of Studying Geography
As a Jew, most good doors were closed to me, just 100%. So I didn't, I couldn't even dream of philological departments of Moscow University. But it also happened that in the ninth grade, I'd read this German book on historical geology and just was very much taken with it. And so I decided to study geography and the chair that I got there by miracle,. It was also almost impossible to be enrolled in it for me but I did get in and spent eight years there. All my jobs after the university were odd jobs.
