Theodginess and Descolons - The Origin of the Aristocratic Beliefs
Theodginess believed that the gods entered into a formal agreement with men, by which it was determined that if the gods received from men honors and ritual sacrifices, they would be obliged to grant them goods and benefits. In his earlier verses, he praises the justice of the gods as necessarily placing the wealth within the hands of the good men. But towards the end of his life, after returning to Magara from exile, Theodginess seems to have altered those beliefs somewhat. He writes, quote, wretched poverty against my desire. You teach me perforce much that is shameful"
