What's Your Favorite Etymology?
When it comes to finding the root word of something, what's been one of the more surprising entries or what are some of your favorite etymologies? Because there's a story behind all of them. The pathway doesn't go very far, particularly with slangs, because they don't have the written citation. I really like the etymology of the word mediocre. And I don't know why it is, but it means halfway up a jagged hill. What an evocative thing. God, I never knew that one.
