What's the Worst Possible Outcome?
The soul or Jonah in this analogy is trying out to God saying, okay, I've done my share. I paid my debt. I've been adequately purified, refined, purged of my sin. And he continues, I thought I was driven away out of your sight. But I will gaze again upon your holy temple. The worst outcome is not to end up in jahannam, at least temporarily, but to not be given any clear directive as to where it's going next. Now he's comforted by the fact that it will still have this legacy and this destiny.
