Before rovey wade, the most liberal estimates were that there were roughly 350 to maybe 375 thousand illegal abortions a year in the us. Within six years of rove waigd we were, at one point, five million a year. So the law clearly did make a difference in how people viewed the permissibility of abortion. I think that, too, it has an effect on public opinion. People mistakenly, to day, think if it's legal, it's right. Without a transcendent grounding point, all you have is what's legal.
