The Importance of Apologies
There are circumstances under which it's very easy to apologize. People looking for an apology is some sort of a acknowledgement that some deeper strategy of yours was wrong, not just it went wrong a bit on the surface. That's not really an apology if you say I would have done it the same anyway, but sorry away badly for you. But especially with strangers and with causing pain to others, we want to err on the side of clarifying.
