The Power of Video Calling

The technique was pioneered again in Xinjiang against the Uighurs, where there is a large number of Uighurs who have gone into exile. The favored solution by local officials is to send some police officers to go and pick up the mother or the family  and then insist that the relatives start a video call with their relative outside China. And they see a call coming in from their mum, a video call, they probably do this regularly, they're like, oh, great, right, they open up that. Then suddenly on the video screen, what they see is not their mum, but they see a police officer in the foreground in the background which makes them look very scared
