The First Ingredient in Patriotism
Lewis asks, is this kind of patriotism aggressive? He says, no, it just wants to be left alone. Once you have realized that the frenchman likes cafe compla just as we like bacon an eggs, we good luck to them and let them have at it. The last thing we want is to make everywhere else just like our own home. We actually live in a very different culture. I think louis would be baffled by the homogeneity of the world. And he cites examples such as marithon, which was a major greek victory in antiquity against the persians,. and the battle of waterloo, where we gave napoleon and the french a good thrashing.
