The Rise and Fall of the Chinese People

China had been on a long journey toward this reawakening. The invasion by Imperial Japan forced the Nationalists under Chancoshek and the Communists under Mao into a united front of resistance. By 1948, Nationalist armies began defecting in their droves, while China's major cities fell to the Communists. If the Communist victory in 1949 represented the Chinese people standing up, they were badly beaten and bruised in the process. They could use some support.
