The End of Malcolm X
Elijah Muhammad suspended Malcolm X for three months after he called on blacks to violently retaliate against white America. Malcolm spent much of the next year overseas on a pilgrimage to Mecca and a tour of African and European capitals. In his absence, Harlem exploded in ten days of riots after an off-duty police officer killed a 15-year-old black boy. On February 21, 1965, just days after Malcolm returned from Europe, he was about to address a nationalist meeting in Harlem when he was rushed by several black Muslims. He was dead within minutes. Brian Burroughs describes Malcolm's end.
