CNN's John Defterios asks AI expert to explain how these technologies actually work. He says language models are essentially text prediction machines inside of AI in general. They can produce grammatical, mostly contextual and sometimes creative seeming texts that are doing what they're meant to do, which is be plausible. But he adds: "They don't have any capacity to understand if they don't understand anything"
