The Fateful Decisions of Columbus

Columbus's letters and other primary source documents suggest that Columbus had been openly musing about starting a slave trade as early as February of 1494. This was well before any large-scale violent native resistance took shape. Of those 500 people sent to Europe in this first shipment, only around 300 arrived alive to be auctioned off in a slave market in Seville.
