The Thomistic Account of Rights
For Aquinas, religio is the name also of a virtue, a virtue related to justice. It disposes one to give to God what is God's use, God's right, which is worship. This would be for Aquinas the basis for the natural right of religious freedom. And that worship wouldn't have any value if it weren't done freely apart from coercion.
