Ympathy is a dividing line between impassive, impassibility and passibility. When i'm sympathizing with you, i'm trying to figure out what it's like for you to feel thin particular way. Some people are not as good at ympathy as others; they're just better at reading up on some different psychological literature. People can be influenced by their emotions but also have this kind of experiential knowledge that has nothing to do with them. So if i am very specific in my feelings about something, then other people won't empathize with me because I've jacked your emotions too much. That would be really bad.
