The Life of a Privateer
In 1703, Alexander Selkirk signs up for an expedition headed by a man called William Dampia. He is the first person to circumnavigate the globe three times. But there is a darker side to Dampia too - he has a reputation as a vicious and incompetent drunkard. Returning from the Robuck expedition, he has caught marshalled for cruelty and dismissed from the Royal Navy. Unable to continue in more respectable employment, he now turns to privateering.
