Norman Conquests in the Mediterranean
Before 1066, Norman conquests are beginning in Europe and they're beginning in southern Italy. What this seems to have developed out of is initial contacts between Normandy,. the new nation, Duchy in northern France, and Italy. And there's good evidence that quite a few people are doing so via places like other cult centers such as Monte Gargano. There's a strong Norman affinity to the Archangel Michael and there's a very important cult site of his in southeastern Italy.
