What's the Life Cycle of a New Product?

When you get an idea for a new product, what's the life cycle from inception to actually creating it and then to having it ready for sale? Typically how long does that take? Yeah. I would say the process is about, I'm going to say too much. And the reason why I say that is because first of all, my creative process is this, I have an idea.
