Gavin Smith: There's so much nuance here that needs to be mentioned totally. He says the church is just like the resurgence of the Pharisees without taking really seriously what Jesus said in Matthew 23, do what they say, but not what they do. "Why wouldn't Jesus just say, listen to the scriptures, not the Pharisee?" he asks.
