The Problem of Loops in a Network
A network is a kind of relay race, with packets of information passed along instead of batons. A computer sends a packet of information out onto the network with an ultimate destination attached to it. The problem with a system like this is that every now and then loops appear in the network. Building a bridge which would forward information based on end nodes acting as though they were attached only to a single link requires a topology without any loops.
