For centuries, Assyria's kings sent out their armies to conquer territory and sack cities. Millions were deported from their homelands as part of the Assyrian imperial project. The seeds of violence and destruction that the Assyrians themselves planted in the middle of the 7th century BC blossomed into explicit revenge just a few decades later.
