What Is the Troxler Fading Effect?
When you stare at another person's face for too long, it's almost like you're seeing parts of the face floating around. Caputo: The illusion involves a high level mechanism that is specific to global face processing. You can recreate similar effects by having people gaze directly into other people's faces for 10 minutes in low light. This was explored in another paper that Caputo published in 2013 called Strange Face Illusions during intersubjective gazing.
