Is There a Difference Between Direct and Indirect Prompting?

I find it interesting just reflecting on the fact that prompt engineering is such a ubiquitous and difficult thing to do there's an inefficiency there. I get a lot of my inspiration from looking at interfaces both hardware and software interfaces for music production because music is one where we've spent so much money and time trying to build interfaces that let us traverse this latent space in an effective way. Some directions in this space are obviously interpretable like sound and gay and others are a little more more strange like timbre of an instrument how do you sort of parameterize that?
