The Child Corset
Erin Algio is curator at the Lissis Museum of Lace and Textiles in Berkeley. She says poorer children were given what was around while upper class children had the privilege of being deliberately dressed. Although fancy children were also sometimes dressed like little adults, underneath their clothes. The demise of the child corset is thanks to philosophers like Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
