The man nobody knows was the best selling non fiction for two years running. It helped religious conservatives reconcile modern self indulgence with christianity and traditional values. Ford himself embodied the tensions within 19 twenties society. Though an innovative, forward thinking business man, he could be narrow minded and reactionary in his politics and personal life. An indiana judge called the automobile a house of prostitution on wheels. For the first time traffic accidents and car crashes became a major problem. Over the course of the 19 twenties, 200 thousand americans were killed in automobile accidents.
