Banking is a very good business. Well run community banks can earn 15 to 20 % return on equity and continue, ironically, particularly in bad markets to grow faster than their larger competitors. The idea that you can earn a reliable rate of return and re invest that by building your equity base, while at the same time increasing, concomitantly, your deposit base makes it a uniquely good business,. from my point of view.
