The Importance of Language Models in Learning Semantics

i've been reading quite a lot of stuff from linguists like steven piantodosi and a lot of linguists are some of them hate language models. They're not just learning simple kind of compound relationships between the world between the words they're learning a world model. i don't think cognitive scientists ever believed in the distributional hypothesis, they think about grounding two things in the world and and also inferential references as well which is you can think of that as grounding to a model of the mind. This superposition idea is very interesting because it actually imbues the representational capacity in a language model to learn those mappings.
