Sam's Confession

Sam watched the tears rise like marbles above his eyes. It was at once freeing and horrible to have it all out there. The truth lay like broken glass shards between the two of them, making the distance of two days travel no longer than the width of Sam's sleeping quarters. They left me messages, you know, after I left. Oh, what did they say? There was a pause, a shuffle, and Sam leaned his head back against the wall above his bed and breathed. And this felt as horrible to confess as everything else. "I've been stealing myself for it, but I'm... I'm scared"
