The Methods of Education in Early Cathedral Choir and in Monasteries
The basic learning pattern is there's oral tradition again assisted by writing depending on the period of time. They were learning to read, they were learning Latin grammar, they werelearning the Psalms because even in cathedral environments or in a collegiate church they still really did have to memorize the Psalms. This was the basis of really all literacy. And I think another aspect that they would use both in early cathedral choir and in monasteries was the monocord. So using this streamed instrument to demonstrate intervals and to demonstrate notes rather than always only singing was a pretty common teaching method.
