The Effects of Light on Soap Bubbles

James Clark Maxwell came up with his theory of light in the middle of the 19th century. He wrote down equations as to how electric phenomena behave and how magnetic phenomena behave. These equations reveal that there should be electromagnetic waves, he says. By putting in numbers into the equations from measurements it was possible to work out the speed of these waves - 300,000 kilometers a second.
