Emmanuel Macron's Trip to the European Commission Is Not a Diplomatic One
Emmanuel Macron is on a state visit to China, but his European Commission chief isn't. Stuart Beale asks if it's strategic or just diplomatic playing by the French leader. He says that von der Lyons has been vilified and seen as being very much a hawk close to the U.S. In appearance, there doesn't seem to be an united front going into this trip, he writes. But we're not actually seeing China talking a lot about Europe if you like - so much of the focus goes back to France.
