The Importance of Receptors in a Television Scanning System
There are hundreds of lines in a television scanning system and hundreds of quanta of black or white dots transmitted to each line. No wonder then that either the camera or the eye can distinguish between 26 letters of the alphabet, for we have seen that the job could be done with only five receptors. And if we take all possible alphabets, including handwritten ones into account, we may well need most of them. So yes, you can use very powerful receptor to deal with very noisy data, I guess is the point that's being said here, right?
