The Mathuis Theory, a Combinatorial Formula for the Oilar Characteristics
I didn't know any physics, or very little a. But i thought the mathuis was beautiful. It turnd out to be very useful in gauge theories and trying to understand the topological properties of gauge theories. And then eventually became a interest, a whole new area of mathematical physics called churn simons theories. You had no notion at the time of developing it that would have any application whatever in physics? Absolutely no. I never entered my head that it would apply to physics.
