In Our Time

CHAPTER

The Psychology of Religious Experience

James is trying to carve out the legitimacy of a discipline called psychology that's allowed to talk about the mind over against philosophers. He's really bringing in another part of the mind, which is the subconscious. I think it's a great love song to the subconscious this book in some ways.
