Ikin and Gerasimov Are Being Demoted
Ikin and Gerasimov are being demoted, even though this is very much framed not as a demotion. The official announcement just simply talks about the need to sort of raise the status of the command because of the nature of the operation. But there's no way of getting around it - Ikin had only been in place for three months. And at the same time, for Gerasimov, this is hardly a particularly elevating move. It's hard to think of this as something that a 67-year-old general was necessarily enthused about.
