How Do You Make an Outsider Into an Insider?
The Samaritan woman at the well is a good example of making an outsider into an insider. She represents the Samaritans who have been oppressed and pushed to the edges of Jewish society but are now being welcomed in. And so I think that model shows us what we should be doing with people who are considered outsiders. When people can be ignored, then they can be dehumanized. We have to make sure that their voices can be heard and we understand where they come from.
