We don't have control or agency over the way that we're being paid. A company that takes away the right to set the price of labour from a worker is treating them not as a freelancer but as an employee, says political philosopher Neil Halliday. Other freedoms are entitlements for employees who can be made to show up to work on a schedule and can be forced to wear uniforms. Another freedom that some of these apps are taking away from freelancers is the freedom of capital investment.
