A lot of politics is about what you're going to do with the stuff you've already got. Liberalism got alive its power by assimilating into the professions, right? And so that sort of combination of liberal or progressive ideological principles and professional, scientific, insulated knowledge became one form which became a guiding part of the American liberalism and the Democratic Party.
