The Importance of Research in UX Design

The skills ladder that we talked about with Lisa Briggs in Episode 173 is actually much more important than the resource ratios. You have to think about the goal, not how the team is constructed. If you've got one person who is very strong in certain aspects of research, but maybe weak in some aspects of visual design, then that team might require a second or even third resource. Some developers are really good at interaction design or visual design even. Sometimes you don't realize that until a few months have passed because it's also about the chemistry within the participants of the team. The issue is not really relevant. It's all about the individual skills that are forming your team.
