Carlton's Warning to the Commons
Carlton offered the commons a warning. He painted a dire picture of politics that he had seen abroad in his travels, and warned parliament that they were headed that way if they carried on with fractiousness. Charles intervened at this point and told the lords that any attack on any of their members was an attack on himself. The wound is not from your house, but the house of commons.
