The Effects of the Great Roman Jewish War
The destruction of the Jerusalem temple in 70 CE was a sledgehammering blow on the Jewish community. But with the fall of the temple, there was no longer a need for a priestly staffs like the Sadducees. And so there was also no more political social religious competition. That position the Pharisees into a framework of leadership that they had not previously known. The rabbis inherited the traditions of the Pharisee and develop them further.
