In 1980, NF Dixon and Elspitz did an experiment where they showed that if you have a video of a person talking, the delay of the audio after the visual needs to be greater than 250 milliseconds. When it comes to something more complicated and social like reading lips and understanding what someone is trying to say, it's a wider range. And this is also why things like Zoom don't feel terrible, right? If we didn't have such a big window of simultaneity, things like video calls would be insufferable.
