Is There a Difference Between Lyrics and Music?

I'm notoriously bad for lyrics. Why is that? I mean, it's just, Hey, what I want to hear is sad stuff. But there are some songs that have great, upbeat sounds, but really dark or sad lyrics. Is that why you don't have songs with lyrics? Yeah, like I feel like, I don't know, it's probably not popular, but you can convey a lot from the way you arrange the music and how you treat it.
