There is not a lot of research on causal effects in personality psychology. But this is a major goal of science because it's important for policymaking. And also causal effects are part of a lot of theories, but let's first talk about the policymaking. For example, with description you can detect that young people get more and more depressed. So maybe that's important in the sense that you describe a trend. The empirical findings don't speak to the theories or they don't test the theories.
