The Stigma of Serving a Mission
There was this perception that you really, if you were a Mormon woman who chose to go on a mission at 21 or older, it was because you hadn't found your husband yet. And so there really was a stigma. There was sort of like this stigma of either you were kind of lame as a woman, and that's why you ended up serving a mission,. not or you were just like supercharged turbo Mormon. You chose to serve a mission, but that was relatively rare. The vast majority of Mormon women just never served missions because it wasn't expected of them.
