What Was It Like Being an Indian Journalist in Washington?
After the nuclear tests in 98 and the Pakistani tests that followed, it was not easy being an Indian journalist in Washington. Wherever you turned, some American official was berating India, condemning India, and using the most intemperate language. Since I am an Indian, it hurt because as in Indian, I sort of understood the logic behind the tests. The nuclear test just brought the house down on India and Bill Clinton had actually said that we're going to come down on them like a ton of bricks.
